The original owners retired in July 2010 and sold the store to Linda Bowles who loves to sew, machine embroidery, and quilt and had been a customer and educator with the original owners for ten years. Janome America was founded in 1860 in Orange, MA, with the production of the New England Single Thread Hand Sewing Machine. Over the next 20 years, the New England machine and the Home Shuttle were their two most significant products. In 1882, the company reformed under the name New Home (a combination of the labels New England and Home Shuttle), and it continued to operate under that name for the better part of a century. The word Janome means "eye of the snake" in Japanese. At that time, the round bobbin system was the most advanced technology replacing the traditional long shuttle type. As the new round bobbin looks like a snake's eye, Janome was chosen as the company name. In 1960, the New Home brand was purchased by the Janome Sewing Machine Company of Tokyo, Japan. This auspicious merger has brought us to the current day, as the Janome Sewing Machine Company - the world's largest manufacturer of home sewing machines. Janome has produced 6 million sewing machines for customers all over the world. Janome Sewing Machines receive very high ratings among consumers for ease of use, requiring little service, and as the manufacturer of high quality products. |
